Soup the Comic Strip by Alun Clewe
Comic strip for February 23 2024.
PANEL ONE: Drv'dxx, in the foreground, watches Thrumger the Storm God and Conniff the Grain Goddess walk into the Dive Divine. THRUMGER: I've never seen the place this empty. Looks like your customers are deserting you, Drv'dxx. PANEL TWO: Angle on Drv'dxx, with Thrunger and Conniff standing in front of him. DRV'DXX: I think they're at Erlak's new bar. Perhaps you should join them. PANEL THREE: Close on Thrumger. THRUMGER: Ah, no you don't. I'd rather stay here and watch you suffer. PANEL FOUR: Thrumger and Drv'dxx stare at each other. PANEL FIVE: Drv'dxx puts one of his hands on Thrumger's shoulder. DRV'DXX: Thank you! I'm getting so lonely! THRUMGER: That does it; we're leaving. PANEL SIX: Drv'dxx watches them leave. DRV'DXX: Heh heh heh...

It is done. Another two weeks' worth of old strips relettered and uploaded, I mean. Which leaves only two weeks' worth to go.

I did, however, encounter one unpleasant surprise. Remember (assuming you've read the older commentaries) how the Adobe Illustrator files were missing for some of the early strips, and I had only the bitmap files to work with? (Which, as I mentioned at the time, is going to be a problem when and if I ever want to release a print version of those strips; if I don't find the original Illustrator files before then I may have to redraw those strips.) Well, I thought I'd got through all those after November, but nope! Somehow the Illustrator file for the June 2 strip (or the strip originally dated June 2; thanks to the leap year issue it'll now be the June 1 strip) is also missing! I'm not sure how this happened. The earlier strips, okay; maybe I was kind of careless with the files that early on, and I didn't really know what I was doing. But this was one of the last strips I drew, and it was drawn in 2011! How did I misplace this file? What did I do with it? Did I draw this strip on a different computer? What happened to it?

As with the earlier strips with missing Illustrator files, the possibility remains that those missing files still exist on some other drive in my possession, and that will turn up at some point. But in the meantime I guess I'm going to do with that strip what I did with the earlier such strips, viz., import the bitmap into an Illustrator file, hide the old dialogue, and put the relettered dialogue over it. Which is... even more tedious than just relettering the dang things. But at least after this next batch all the old strips will be done. (And then of course it's on to drawing new strips...)
