Comic strip for April 20 2024.
PANEL ONE: Erlak puts his hand on the champion's shoulder. ERLAK: Hey, let me introduce you around. CHAMPION: Um...do I have a choice? PANEL TWO: Erlak introduces the champion to Lambor. ERLAK: This is Lambor, God of Light. CHAMPION: I've heard of you, of course! You're a powerful god! PANEL THREE: Close on the champion. CHAMPION: ...Which raises the question of exactly why you're hanging out with Erlak... PANEL FOUR: Close on Lambor. LAMBOR: Well...gods get bored...and erlak can be a fun guy to be around... PANEL FIVE: The champion glares to the side at Erlak. CHAMPION: I guess that may be true, when he's not FAILING TO SAVE YOU FROM AN IMMINENT HORRIBLE DEATH! ERLAK: I only did that twice!

Today's strip was one of the first in which I finally thought to do something I possibly ought to have thought to do a long time before, namely using a gray color for the linework in background elements instead of black to make the characters and other foreground elements stand out better, at least in strips with busy backgrounds like those in the Bar of Soup where it would be easy for the foreground elements to get lost. Yesterday's strip was actually the first to feature this, but I didn't notice it when I wrote yesterday's commentary. At this point it's kind of subtle; it's still a dark gray not that different from black; which is why I didn't notice it yesterday. I think I pushed it a little farther and used lighter grays later on.
